Friday, March 3 Conversion, Baptism, New Beginning

 

9 am Arrive Milan Malpensa Airport, board our bus

10 am Arrive Hotel San Martino; check into rooms and freshen up.

12:30 Light lunch at Hotel

2:30 pm Board bus for 5 minute trip to Cassago Brianza (Cassiciacum)

Visit Augustinian Park and Center, Excavations and Church of St. James and St Bridget

5 pm local café for a cup of café, cappuccino or cioccolata; CHECK-IN: HOW'S EVERYONE DOING?

7 pm Pizza with Italian friends in their home

8:30 pm Return by bus to Hotel San Martino

 

 

Saturday, March 4 Augustine in Milan: Conversion, Baptism, New Beginning

 

7:30 Colazione (breakfast) in Hotel

8:30 Lecture by Giuseppe Redaelli, Director of Augustinian Studies at the Associazione Storico-Culturale S. Agostino in Cassago Brianza (www.cassiciaco.it )

9:30 Bus departs Hotel for Milan (use bathrooms before departure)

10:30 Visit the Duomo Cathedral Church and Piazza

• Student Presentations on Duomo and on Excavation of 4th c. Baptistery

• Group visit to the Duomo and to excavated site of Augustine's baptism beneath Duomo.

• tour the interior of the Cathedral and visit the unique rooftop of the Cathedral (on your own)—tickets will be provided for elevator to roof terrace

• see the Gallaria (famous shopping mall) and La Scala (Opera House of Milan)

1:30 pm Meet at Vittorio Emanuele monument (1st King of United Italy) in middle of piazza Pranzo/spuntino (lunch/snack) on one's own ($$=you pay) in small, assigned groups

3:15 pm Guided tour of Chiesa di Sant'Ambrogio (St. Ambrose), the bishop of Milano, whose preaching profoundly influenced Augustine and who baptized Augustine.

6:00 pm Bus returns from Milan to Hotel—meeting place for bus near Sforza Castel

7:30 pm Bus departs from Hotel for Cena (supper) with I Alpini

9:30 pm Bus departs Alpini for Hotel

11:00 pm Lights out
